Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, Found Dead; Police Say Suicide

Sushant Singh had set a job in motion when his former manager Disha Salian was found dead a few days ago. "It is such devastating news," he wrote on Instagram.

Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his home in Mumbai, police said today, confirming his suicide. He was 34 years old. Police are investigating his death. No suicide note found.

The popular actor was recently seen in the movie “Chhichhore”, which dealt with the extreme pressures of academic competition. His last appearance was in the Netflix movie “Drive”.

He had posted a poignant post last week when his former manager Disha Salian was found dead. “It is such devastating news,” the actor had written on Instagram.

His last Instagram post was dedicated to his mother. “A blurred past that evaporates from tears, endless dreams that carve an arc of a smile and a fleeting life, negotiating between the two,” he wrote. The actor is survived by his father and five sisters. He was the youngest among them.

“A brilliant young actor left too soon,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted tonight. “Sushant Singh Rajput…a bright young actor gone too soon. He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances. Shocked by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and fans. Om Shanti,”PM Modi tweeted.

Rajput, who became a household name with his hit TV series “Pavitra Rishta”, debuted in movies with the critically acclaimed “Kai Po Che!” based on Chetan Bhagat’s best selling book “The Three Mistakes of My Life”.

The movie catapulted Sushant Singh Rajput into the big league and then made several best-selling movies. He also played MS Dhoni in the former captain’s biographical film, for which he was nominated for film awards.

He also played the namesake role of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! in the 2015 movie. He played a supporting role in the 2014 hit of Aamir Khan PK. In 2018 Rajput starred in Kedarnath alongside debutant Sara Ali Khan.

Rajput was born in Patna. One of his sisters, Mitu Singh, is a state-level cricketer.

He studied engineering and was the winner of the National Olympiad in Physics.

She said in interviews that after her participation in theater and dance, she rarely had time to study. He eventually dropped out of engineering just a year before graduating to pursue an acting career.

A shocked film industry released tributes on Twitter. “Honestly this news has left me shocked and speechless…I remember watching #SushantSinghRajput in Chhichhore and telling my friend Sajid, its producer how much I’d enjoyed the film and wish I’d been a part of it. Such a talented actor…may God give strength to his family,” wrote Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.

Actor and director Farhan Akhtar tweeted: “Absolutely stunned by Sushant’s death..!! This is so so sad. Heart goes out to his family.. their grief must be beyond measure. Deepest condolences.”

“No No No!!!!! Horrible heartbreaking news of the passing of #SushantSinghRajput ! Shocking & sad beyond words!!! Goodbye Sushant.. you were such a wonderful performer and had such a long long way to go! Don’t know what you were going through but I’m sorry for your suffering! Red heart (sic),” Swara Bhaskar published, condemning his death.

“The news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death is truly sad. What a tragic loss. Deepest condolences to his family & loved ones. May his soul find eternal peace,” wrote actor Ajay Devgn.

Abhishek Bachchan tweeted, “This is just so shocking. A wonderful talent. RIP Sushant”

Last month, the deaths of experienced actors, Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan, left the country with grief and shock.
