The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India reported a 32.05 percent decrease in production in March. The auto major said the company produced a total of 92,540 units in March, up from 1,36,201 units in the month a year ago. Passenger vehicle production in the month of March was 91,602 units, which was 32.26 percent as against 1,35,236 units in March 2019.
Production of the mini and compact segment cars including Alto, S-Preso WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno and Desire stood at 67,708 units as against 98,602 units in March last year, up 31.33 percent.
However, the production of utility vehicles like Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and S-Cross declined 14.19 percent to 15,203 units as against 17,719 units a year ago.
Mid-size sedan Ciaz saw its output fall to 2,146 units in March from 3,205 units in the same month last year. The filing stated that production of Light Commercial Vehicle Super Carry declined from 938 units in March 2019 to 938 units.
