Vehicle maker TVS Motor Company reported a two-wheeler sales decline of 82 per cent in the month of May, to 41,067 units after partial lifting of the lockdown. The firm has sold 2,36,807 units in May 2019.
The company recorded total sales of 58,906 units, 81 percent less than the 3,07,106 units sold in the same period last year. Two-wheeler sales, including exports, stood at 56,218 units in May 2020, down by almost 80 percent from 2,94,326 units in the same month a year ago. Three-wheeler sales were 2,688 units in May 2020, compared to 12,780 units in the same period last year, up 79 per cent.
“We are seeing a progressive opening of dealerships in the county and abroad in the last two weeks of May, and in June. We are seeing a steady increase in customer retail for the past few days,” the company said.
The company resumed operations on 6 May in all its factories – Hosur, Mysuru and Nalagarh – after the central and state governments announced a relaxation in the lockout. The firm has taken extensive safety measures to protect the health of its workers in all its factories.
