Venkaiah Naidu for bridging STEM gender divide

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday mentioned that whereas India produces the best proportion of girls STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Management) graduates on this planet — about 40 % — their share in jobs these classes within the nation may be very low — 14 per cent.

Speaking at IMSc, Chennai, Naidu mentioned that as a result of authorities’s efforts, the variety of lady college students in IITs has elevated from 8 % in 2016 to just about 20 % now. He additionally lauded the Centre’s ‘Women Scientists’ programme that encourages girls to take up careers in science and maths.

He mentioned the New Education Policy (NEP-2020) sought to bridge the inflexible separation between arts and sciences and that it was necessary to build on the thought.
