Dry fasting: Health benefits, how to do it and why its better than ‘wet’ fasting

As more and more people are becoming health conscious, fasting has become a common way of maintaining body fitness. Fasting has been in vogue for centuries and its health benefits are being discussed recently.

Fasting has been done mainly, for religious reasons. People of different religions have been practicing different methods of essentially the same concept of depriving the body of food and / or water for a specified amount of time.

There are various ways of fasting and ‘drought fasting’ is one which has gained popularity in recent years. This type of fast requires fully foregoing water and food for extended periods of time. As difficult as it sounds, fasting has enormous benefits of drying and here’s how you can start –

Ready – Do not go on dry fast with too much toxins in the body as it can increase the chances of feeling tired. The best way to prepare for dry fasting is to properly hydrate it in the coming days.

Do not attempt to fast for more than 12 hours in the first attempt. Like most other things, the body requires training and preparation for fasting for 24 or 36 hours.

Fast break – Given the crisis keeping your body down, it is recommended that if at any point you feel dizzy, nausea, tiredness or on the verge of passing out, you should break the fast.

You should break your fast with simple organic foods like mild salads or probiotic smoothies that can help release even more toxins without suddenly putting too much pressure on your stomach.

Interval – Dry fasting has shown the best results when practiced at regular times.

Although there is no limit to the number of times you can fast, you should include variety in your diet by mixing high protein content, low carb days, and intermittent fasting days. This will not only provide all the nutrition to our body, but will keep your body on its toes.

Exercise – If you exercise regularly, you can continue it even on dry fast, but it is important to keep in mind that dry fasting can be very taxing on the body. Pushing the body beyond its limits can be harmful.

If you are fasting for the first time, it is advised that you give your body time before exercising.

What are the health benefits of dry fasting?

When the body realizes that it is not getting any nutrients externally, your cells will start eating the toxins inside to survive.

There is a lot of stress on the body during extended periods of lack of food and water, allowing it to reach all the excess reserves of energy. It also helps speed up the metabolism of fat to reach the water that resides within the fat cells.

Short intermittent periods of dry fasting help to balance cholesterol levels, especially when combined with a ketogenic (high fat and low carb) diet.
