Kerala govt issues guidelines for rescue work amid heavy rain | Latest News India

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan issued guidelines to facilitate rescue and reduction operations because the southern state is battered by torrential downpour since Friday night time. “Situation is really serious in some parts of the state. We will do everything possible to save lives. We have sought the army, navy and air force help. Relief camps have been set up in affected districts,” he instructed reporters on Saturday.

At least 10 individuals have lost their lives, whereas 18 individuals have been reported lacking in Kottayam as heavy rains lashed varied districts of Kerala from Friday night time. 

The Indian meteorological division has issued pink alerts within the districts of Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Palakkad. The climate forecasting company has additionally warned of attainable thunderstorms and robust winds all by means of the state.

The state authorities has issued the next directives to involved authorities:-

1. One group every of National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, and Malappuram districts. Both Pathanamthitta and Thrissur have been put below pink alert and Malappuram below orange alert by IMD.

2. Army groups have been deployed in each Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam. IMD has issued an orange alert for the previous and a pink alert for the latter. The Air drive has additionally been requested to be ready to assist out in conducting emergency rescues in Kottayam.

3. Red alerts have been issued for Kaki dam in Pathanamthitta district, Sholayar dam in Thrissur district, Kundala dam and Kallarkutty dam in Idukki district. An orange alert has been issued in Mattupetty dam in Idukki district and Peringalkuthu dam in Thrissur district, all these dams are below the authority of the Kerala state electrical energy board.
