Darjeeling toy train service will resume from Christmas – travel

Much to the delight of vacationers flocking to the hills within the festive season, pleasure rides of the famed toy train of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) will resume from Christmas, a Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) official mentioned on Thursday.

Three every day pleasure journey companies will be run between Darjeeling and Ghum stations from Friday, the NFR spokesman mentioned from Maligaon.

“The West Bengal government has given permission for the resumption of joy ride services between Darjeeling and Ghum at present,” he mentioned.

The variety of companies could also be elevated later relying on the demand of passengers, he mentioned.

Resumption of companies over the complete 88-km size of the DHR between Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri stations within the plains at Siliguri will be thought of after mandatory permission is accorded by the state authorities, the NFR official mentioned.

The toy train companies have been stopped in March owing to a nationwide lockdown declared by the Central authorities in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
