New Delhi: Deputy Rajya Sabha and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, who was admitted to a hospital in Singapore, passed away on Saturday afternoon at the age of 64. He was not feeling well for a long time and had been receiving treatment in a hospital in Singapore for several months, reports Prasar Bharti. Singh is survived by his wife Pankaja and two daughters. He had suffered kidney failure in 2013 and had previously undergone a kidney transplant.
Singh last tweeted about three hours ago, in which he paid tribute to revolutionary freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. He had also wanted people on Eid.
“Tribute to the great revolutionary freedom fighter Lokmanya #BalGangadharTilak ji on his death anniversary. His contribution will be remembered forever (sic),” read his tweet.
In early March of this year, when rumors emerged about the death of the veteran politician, he had immediately tweeted at the time saying ‘Tigar Zinda Hai’.

The Rajya Sabha has just lost one of its most colourful members. Amar Singh played a key role in the United Front government in '96 and ‘97 in pushing telecom and petroleum sector reforms. I was his neighbour for quite a few years. Have many fond memories.
