FC Goa gave al-Wahda a terrifying second half in the group stage of the AFC Champions League here on Saturday with UAE scoring a goal.

It was the second such result in several matches for the Goan side, who played a goalless draw against Al Rayan of Qatar in their first Group E match on Wednesday.

FC Goa were left to defend their stronghold during the first half, but they retaliated with at least a few opportunities in the next 45 minutes, which could have resulted in a goal.

Al Wahda’s goalkeeper Al Shamsi outscored Brandon Fernandes’ 54th minute strike attack, but it was a complete hit.

In the 69th minute again, Devendra Murgokar, who came in for Ishan Pandita in the 54th minute, got a brilliant long ball from captain Edu Betia. He got the better of him as a defender and sent a low cross to Al Wahda Gol’s face but it cleared up after a round-mouth scuffle.

Devendra fired another shot from handshaking distance in the 73rd minute, but the target was not found.

Young FC Goa goalkeeper Moirangthem Dheeraj Singh performed brilliantly in the second match in a row as he dismissed former UAE captain Ismail Matar in the 78th minute and then saved his side in the 90th minute.

In the first half though, Al Wahda was clearly prominent, as he threatened on most occasions with FC Goa’s stronghold and again experienced peas in a thick state of things.

The 37-year-old Pea, who has played more than 130 matches for the United Arab Emirates, set the conditions in the midfield to launch most of Al Faha’s attacks.

To FC Goa’s credit, they had 47 percent possession in the first half, despite defending their own half for most of the first season.

FC Goa played their third match against Iran’s final version runners-up side Persepolis FC on Tuesday.
