Sunil Chhetri, one of the most loved players of Indian football, has completed a decade and half time in international football, making his debut in 2005 against neighboring country Pakistan.
Beginning his international career in Quetta city of Pakistan on 12 June 2005, Chhetri won important matches for India and thanks to fans, he does not see retirement in the near horizon.
Chhetri played 115 times for India at the highest level in his 15 years and scored 72 goals. He is the second highest international scorer among active footballers after Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Ustad Leonie Messi.
“I’m lucky to play 15 years for my country. It’s a dream, maybe 3-4 years and it will be 20 years. Who would have thought to play 20 years and that’s why I’m living my dream.” . ”
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu feels that Sunil Chhetri will continue to play till the age of 41, as his Bangalore FC teammate is ‘getting shorter by the day’.
Sandhu said during an online chat show organized by the Indian Super League (ISL), “I can compete with Chhetri as I have great difficulties. He can play six-seven years easily.”
Certainly, this milestone has at times created positivity on social media, much like Chhetri.
