Google and Facebook have decided to allow most of their work to be done and work at home by the end of this year. As reported by CNBC, Facebook has said that it will open most of its office from July 6 and is in the process of determining which employees will be asked to return to office. Similar measures are being taken by Google in light of the COVID-19 epidemic.
According to a BBC report on Friday, Google employees will be able to walk into their offices starting in July, but most of those whose roles allow them to work from home can do so by the end of the year, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said a statement. Google’s original plan was to have a home policy in place until June 1.
Facebook currently employs 48,268 people, an increase of 28 percent (year-over-year).
Facebook’s Work From Home Condition
Facebook employees have been working from home since March. According to the company, it will continue to pay hourly employees who may not be able to work for less staffing, office closures or if they are ill.
Reportedly, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg may soon announce plans to reopen the company’s office in an official statement.
Facebook has already canceled all physical conferences and events planned through June 2021 with 50 or more people. This includes the Oculus Connect 7 virtual reality conference in San Jose. According to Zuckerberg, some of these will be organized as virtual events.
In an earnings call on April 30, the company has hit its business with the COVID-19 epidemic and like all companies, it is experiencing unprecedented uncertainty in its business outlook.Zuckerberg said in a recent statement, “We will share more information about this soon. Likewise, we are expanding our policy of business travel through at least June of this year.”
“We expect our business performance to be affected by issues beyond our control, including the duration and efficacy of asylum-place orders, the effectiveness of worldwide economic stimuli, and the fluctuations of currencies relative to the US dollar.” Facebook.
The expansion of work from home policies is expected to help some companies redesign their office locations to maintain social away measures.
