Google releases Android 11 for its Pixel devices

Google has released Android 11 beta for its Pixel phones after it cancelled its June 3 event due to the ongoing protests. After several changes and new additions, the Android 11 version has finally managed to reach the beta phase.

Google has categories the new changes into three groups: People, Controls, and Privacy. Android 11 beta brings chat bubbles, improved media controls, and improved control over sensitive permissions. Additionally, Google also released several new features in Android Studio 4.1 Beta and 4.2 Canary.

People

Revealing about it in its blog post, Google mentioned that it aims to make it more people-centric and expressive. The notifications in Android 11 beta are divided into three categories namely, conversations, alerting notifications, and silent notifications.

Android 11 beta has also launched chat bubbles which looks similar to Facebook messenger. This bubble feature has now been integrated into the OS. Google believes that the bubble feature is very people friendly and allows user to stay in chat without switching into the app.

Controls

A new power button menu has been added in Android 11 beta that gives users the ability to access their connected devices more easily. The media controls have also been tweaked in a way that the users get more control on video and audio output.

Privacy

Google says it is added enhanced control over sensitive permissions with the Android 11 beta. Users will be able to give apps a one-time access to microphone, camera, or location and the app will request for access again when it is used the next time.

Android Studio

The new features added to Android Studio 4.1 Beta and 4.2 Canary include simpler debugging, better device testing with the Android Emulator, easier machine learning, and more powerful games tooling.

Android 11 beta is currently available of only Google Pixel devices – Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, and Pixel 4 XL. If you have the device, you can enroll for the beta version.

Check for update via Settings > System > Advanced > System Update, and tap on Check for update.
