Union home minister Amit Shah tests positive for COVID-19, admitted to hospital

"I feel good, but on the advice of the doctors, I am entering a hospital," the union's interior minister said today.

Union Minister Amit Shah tested positive for a new coronavirus infection on Sunday. “When I got the initial symptoms of the crown, I had the test and the report was positive,” the interior minister said on the social media platform Twitter today.

He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. “I feel good, but following the advice of the doctors, I am entering a hospital,” he added. “I ask everyone who has been in contact with me in the past few days to isolate themselves and be tested.” he said.

India witnessed the biggest jump in COVID-19 cases, as more than 57,000 had tested positive for a new coronavirus infection. With this, India’s COVID-19 account approached the 17 lakh mark. The coronavirus claimed up to 764 lives in the past 24 hours. The death toll from the virus rose to 36,511. The death rate in the country was one of the lowest in the world, said the health ministry.

The center announced a national shutdown in the last week of March to curb the spread of COVID-19. Starting today, India entered the ‘Unlock 3.0’ phase to gradually restart economic activities across the country. The nightly curfew that was applicable from 10 p.m. was lifted. at 5 a.m. Gyms can open their doors to enthusiasts starting August 5. However, everyone must follow the guidelines of COVID-19 and maintain the rules of social distancing.

Closure restrictions in the containment zones were extended until the end of August. The central government allowed states and union territories to hold the Independence Day ceremony while following coronavirus regulations.

However, schools, universities and other educational institutions will remain closed until August 31. In addition, metro services, movie theaters and swimming pools, amusement parks, bars, theaters, auditoriums and other social gathering places will also remain closed.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit also tested positive for a new coronavirus infection today. “He is asymptomatic and clinically stable,” says a Kauvery hospital health bulletin.

Previously, Madhya Pradesh Prime Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also tested positive for COVID-19 infection. He was admitted to the Chirayu Hospital to receive treatment. Kamal Rani, a cabinet minister in Uttar Pradesh, died today at the Sanjay Gandhi Graduate Institute of Medicine in Lucknow from COVID-19 disease.
